Modesto covered in trash

Once again I am putting a plea out there for a solution to the landfill the city of Modesto is becoming.

Once again I am putting a plea out there for a solution to the landfill the city of Modesto is becoming. Mayor Garrad Marsh, do you not notice the garbage building up in our parking lots, sidewalks, gutters, road shoulders and areas around freeway offramps when you drive through town? I know it isn’t in the budget to hire a full crew to take care of this, but there has to be something you can do to inspire a new pride in our city.

Here are a few ideas that might get the attention of some caring citizens: Monthly or weekly volunteer trash walks, ZIP code contests, alternative work program crews, high school students trying to get community service credits, other folks doing community service. Set up a meeting and see what kind of interest is out there to get some sort of program going. I know I would show up.

Thankfully a few of us are already out there doing what we can, but it is overwhelming and we could use more help. I am tired of being embarrassed when I have visitors come from out of town. We can and should look better!
