President Obama states that the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government is a national security issue for the United States.
Condoleezza Rice said the same thing about our public education system, but the government didn’t step up to put billions of dollars into the schools. Instead, they have Race to the Top, where public schools must compete for limited dollars.
Here are some things I consider national security threats to the United States: income inequality, high college student debt, high unemployment and underemployment, damaged roads and bridges, greenhouse gas, deregulation on Wall Street, power of corporate lobbyists, lack of affordable health care, shrinking middle class and fewer avenues for people to better their socioeconomic position.
We have leaders who are unable to come to any budget agreement, so funding is cut through the sequester, and now they talk of war? How is it that our leaders talk on the one hand about our rising national debt and then even entertain the idea of military intervention in another country?
Never miss a local story.
The answer is military industrial complex and their lobbyists. Big money to be made, again, off of the backs of the American taxpayer.
