Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan obviously wants to be made a martyr or hero by his religion/people. We have a different type of hero (our own martyr), a courageous victim that fought against his cowardly deed. Michael Cahill was an “innocent” who fought back with no regard for himself and only served to aid others. If he has not been given our country’s highest honor already, his surviving wife should be awarded it, in his honor.

Hasan may be considered a martyr to some in his religion but not all. Our decision should be based on our laws and not consider what he wants or doesn’t want. Let us celebrate Michael Cahill‘s courageousness and let it console his wife (albeit as much as it is able) for the others he tried to save with his acts. Maybe dropping all news regarding Hasan would be the last thing he wants.
