Not all immigrants speak Spanish

I was recently greeted with an official-looking letter from my representative, Jeff Denham. Imagine my excitement! After opening the letter I was dismayed and frustrated at my inability to glean the obviously very valuable information he was trying to share. Why? It was in Spanish only.

I understand the political value of the Spanish vote, but our representatives shouldn’t ostracize the voters who helped put them in office in the first place. Perhaps I’m a bit sensitive because my grandfather came from Portugal and learned English. My father started his first day of school not knowing a word of English and learned the language.

Why are so many resources in school and government devoted to accommodating Spanish speakers when thousands of immigrants from other countries are not given the same share of resources? It all makes sense now – for votes! I’m saddened and frustrated by it all.
