Modesto residents, do keep your sidewalks clear

Reading the do's and don'ts that come with the monthly water-sewer-garbage bill from the city, I note: Do not place garbage cans on the sidewalk, do place them in the street next to the curb. OK

Reading the do's and don'ts that come with the monthly water-sewer-garbage bill from the city, I note: Do not place garbage cans on the sidewalk, do place them in the street next to the curb. OK. Most neighbors do that, but what about those big basketball backboard things that are seldom used, blocking the whole walk and staying there all year? Also, bushes, trees and other plants that are not trimmed for months?

It is hard enough for my 90-year-old bones to walk the dog on an unimpeded, clear sidewalk.

I hope those guilty keep their home insurance current. It's a big world with a myriad of do's and don'ts. Good luck.
