Money wasted on misplaced case

The Stanislaus court system has shown a big waste of money on a case that was brought before the court and then dropped due to the defendant being tried for a violation that was supposedly committed in Mariposa County (news story, June 14). The court had 22 hearings and set dates for such hearings from May 2012 into June 2013.

In the final hearing, the case was dropped due to the fact that the crime allegedly occurred in Mariposa County and it could not be tried in Stanislaus County. Why was this case in the Stanislaus court system to begin with? Do we have that much money for pretrials and paperwork, etc., plus lawyer fees and time to waste on a case from another county? It is a small wonder why our courts are so backlogged.
