My anger about the defeat of the bill on background check on guns has turned to shame for my country. I am ashamed that the U.S. Senate could not pass a watered-down bill that would only require background checks on gun shows and outside sales of guns. Businesses of all sizes have followed the law and done proper reporting.
Why must they have to comply and not those sources who have no restrictions on who they sell to?
Gabby Gifford met her fellow Arizonan, Sen. Jeff Flake, in the hall before the vote and tried to express the need for his vote. And he went into the Senate and voted no. What kind of human being is he and all the others who met with Newtown, Conn., parents, heard their stories and still voted no?
More people in this country have died from gun violence than have ever died from terrorist attacks.
And yet we have gone to two wars and ruined our economy in the pursuit of terrorism. Senators who voted no have sold their souls to the NRA for money. I don't know how they sleep at night.
