I was one of the nearly 3,000 runners in Sunday's Modesto Marathon. I trained for the event with the ShadowChase Running Club.
The sponsors and volunteers should be as proud of this event as the runners. It was splendidly organized. It was safe, healthy and fun. The residents of city streets and country roads were gracious and supportive even as their neighborhoods were inconvenienced. Many stood outside offering encouragement and refreshments.
All along the course, volunteers, friends, family, and others offered enthusiastic support to the runners. As I was suffering mile after mile, I must have heard "good job" 500 times.
This is a great event for Modesto. All involved done our city good.
