Appointment would have been fine

On Nov. 6, Riverbank voters had the opportunity to choose from a field of seven City Council candidates of diverse backgrounds, including Latino. To fill the vacancy, two council members have refused to appoint from the remaining qualified candidates, using the pretense of ensuring that Riverbank's large Latino population is included, according to a Jan. 29 report in The Bee.

Were not all registered Riverbank voters included on Nov. 6? These two have now forced a special election which will cost the city tens of thousands of dollars. How shameful.
