In response to "Ex-locals, now stars should give back" (April 3, Letters): Jeremy Renner has "given back" to his hometown in countless ways. When the Modesto Junior College Performing and Media Arts center was dedicated, Jeremy was one of the first local celebrities to volunteer to come to Modesto to help with the celebration. He has never forgotten the education he received at MJC. His dedication to the college earned him the Distinguished Alumni award in 2010. Despite his busy schedule, Jeremy came in person to accept his award.
Jeremy returned to Modesto that same year to help inaugurate the Gallo Center for the Arts Home Town Hero series. He has also met with young students in the Yes, Company program, giving them a role model to follow in their performing arts careers. Jeremy told me he hopes to return to Modesto in the near future to perform at the Gallo Center and continue to promote arts education in our community. He deserves a big "thank you" from all of us.
