Pitman hat rule infringes on rights

My son is a senior at Pitman High in Turlock. The school has a rule that no hats can be worn by either gender unless it is a Pitman hat! He was suspended for three days because he had on a black beanie when he stepped onto campus. If you have three offenses, you are suspended. This was the third time in all of high school he has worn a hat!

Kids can wear pajamas and slippers, bring blankets, show cleavage etc., but they consider a hat worn for warmth a distraction. I agree with no gang colors, drugs etc., but isn't it against a person's civil rights not to be able to stay warm or express their individuality as long as it isn't harmful?

My son is now at risk of lowered grades because he wasn't wearing a school hat that will only benefit and add profit for the school! A hat is a hat, regardless of color. Since when do academics take a back seat and why is common sense thrown out the window?
