Having attended a debate for all six candidates, we came to an obvious decision. Nancy Willamsen is the top choice and Shawn Bessey the least logical, as he presents himself as an active prosecutor who does not intend to relinquish that role. Now his campaign signs emphasize the inadequacies we saw.
In the courtroom, a prosecutor will be present. An additional role relies on an independent, tough and wise judge. Only a judge who understands and accepts the judicial role, who is not out to rack up convictions as an additional prosecutor in the courtroom, can earn the respect and acceptance of the legal community, the police, and law abiding citizens. The third branch of government needs integrity and logic to operate, not judicial activists.
Willamsen reveals the toughness and temperament necessary. She has the experience that sets the table for her to be a great judge.
