Members of the Modesto school board must be salivating at the prospect of spending really big bucks to hire a new superintendent. I will not be surprised if the search, relocation, compensation, benefits and perks for the new superintendent top $1 million in the first year!
It is an insult to students, parents, teachers and taxpayers to waste scarce funds on an unnecessarily expensive process when there must surely be a qualified and knowledgeable person already working for the district.
The administration is already grossly bloated with staff who are paid very high salaries, but I am certain the school board will try to convince us that we absolutely must have an obscenely compensated superintendent who cannot be found without an expensive search — a superintendent who will work miracles. The school board has already started the ball rolling by hiring a consultant at $100 per hour! How many residents of Modesto make $100 per hour? Outrageous compensation packages are now the rule in business and government and it seems unlikely that it will abate.
