On Sept. 25, I got a call from my 22-year-old daughter; she was in tears. She was studying at the MJC library when her bike was stolen. This was the second bike that she had stolen at MJC. Despite the fact that she had a very heavy duty lock, the thieves used a key. The lock was found locked to the bike rack. She does not drive, and this is her only transportation. These thieves may think that we have insurance, which we do; however, we are self-insured for the first $1,000.
For my daughter, this is more than a financial setback, it is a psychological setback at a time when she can least afford it.
So, students, beware. And thieves, I do not know how you can sleep at night knowing the hardship you have caused. Your victims are not rich; they are all struggling, just like you.
