After living in Modesto five years, I'm done. I got a speeding ticket from a motorcycle cop lying in wait on Sisk by Heritage Ford. I'm guilty — 56 in a 40.
No pedestrian or residential, just going too fast in a posted area. I didn't get a warning, although I have a perfect driving record, good insurance, a good running vehicle. I got a $355 fine, with another $56 for driving school.
What I'm the most upset about is that when the boards were taken off my fence and my stuff stolen, a cop never showed up. When my hose bowl was stolen from my front yard, no cop showed up. Whenever I leave anything out and it's stolen, nobody shows up. When my car parked in the driveway was stolen, no cop showed up. A phone report was taken.
So it looks to me that the bad guys can get away with whatever they want to, steal anything that isn't bolted down. But citizens that pay taxes and abide by the law are the prime game. We have the money to pay the fines, so they go after us. So I'm going to move!
Never miss a local story.
