National statistics show that 68 percent of eighth graders cannot read at their grade level; American students rank 25th in math and 21st in science compared to 30 other industrialized countries, and one-third of high schoolers never graduate. These statistics are embarrassing and disgraceful.
Modesto City Schools strives to be so politically correct that it forbids Mark Ferrante, a teacher at Roosevelt Junior High, from empowering his students to learn and consider more than the narrow view the state has mandated be taught. Why aren't there more teachers out there willing to teach the latest theories and be pro-active for the students that so need to be challenged? Why is Modesto City Schools afraid to let their students think outside the state mandated box? It is time for our statistics to improve. Thank you, Mr. Ferrante, for your effort in attempting this and for your dedication and integrity.
