The article "Quick decision saves day" (Aug. 30, Page A-1) was a lift for readers. Jeff Qualle and Better Built Truss in Riverbank deserve a round of applause and our prayers for survival.
Most managers would have given up and moved on to an uncertain future along with the others destined to lose their jobs with the closure of that plant. Because there are still men with a vision among us, we are encouraged to move on ourselves, determined to do what we can to keep our community from collapsing in this dark time of uncertainty.
Let no one think Qualle's future is assured. His days are going to be filled with long hours of backbreaking, mind-bending toil and with thoughts of all the outside influences — health care, multiple regulations, taxes, cash flow, competition, etc. He will need to ask his workers to become minimanagers and invest themselves in every aspect of the business. You go, Jeff!
