Regarding "Gun fans cheer Starbuck's policy" (March 1, Page B-5): A teen-aged girl was recently gang-raped in Sacramento area and it was witnessed by over 20 people. If one of them had been a legal gun owner carrying their weapon, they could have intervened and saved her. If I am in a store and a robber comes in, I would be glad to have back-up. In fact, I say the punks who are raping and pillaging our communities would not act in the presence of citizens openly armed. Our police cannot be everywhere and as a survivor of rape and assault, help from a fellow citizen is without price.
Most children seeing holstered guns would think it cool, as we give our kids guns as toys, and many would think they're cops. We spend more on prisons than education in California.
It is time citizens start helping law enforcement by deterring would-be criminals with a show of force that we're not going to be passive, sissy victims anymore.
