You get what you pay for, as the saying goes. Rather than slightly increase our tax base to ensure a more secure community, police and fire protection is being reduced. No wonder Modesto is recognized across the country in a negative manner.
I wonder if homes will be safer from fire damage with this reduction. Will auto thefts decrease with the reduction of police officers? Will Modesto become a more desirable city to reside in, according to Forbes? Will gang activity decrease?
It is time for either declaring an immediate moratorium on building homes or responsibly considering a tax increase. We have allowed ourselves to get to this intersection; either we pay for reasonable services or suffer more losses and humiliation.
