The letter "End poverty and you'll end gangs" (May 7) made me spit my coffee across the room, it was so laughable.
The last time I checked, it is not the community's job to "teach" these gangbangers how to be productive citizens. It all starts at home.
If a poor kid wants to live in Del Rio, I would suggest picking up a blueprint to success from someone such as Dan Costa. He didn't come from a rich family and is very successful and still a down-to-earth person you can talk to. He knows the meaning of hard work.
All this political correctness gets us nowhere. Say it how it is -- get up early, work hard and succeed. If mom and dad didn't choose this path, find a role model who does! These people choose their path in life. The letter was right with one statement -- "elimination of street gangs will never occur."
