The article by C.V. Allen ("How can we simplify the spelling of English words? Txt msgrs alredy do," May 10, Page B-5) on simplifying the English language is long overdue; a great article. I have heard one of the reasons for the language/spelling was that 400 or so years ago, spelling words by adding all those extra letters was to keep the serfs ignorant. I am going to go one or two steps further. Why "pointE" or "theatrE"? This is not Europe. "Point" should be spelled simply with no E; and the word "theatre" would be pronounced thea-tree, not thea-ter. My last complaint is all the commercials that claim European styling for products; what's wrong with good ole American styling?
