M y son just finished a four-year enlistment in the Navy. I thought, "Great! We'll take a raft trip down the Stanislaus River." We put in at Knights Ferry and got out at Horseshoe Bend. When we got out, there was a park ranger talking to a young couple. He told us they had only been gone about 20 minutes when someone broke out the windows in their car and stole her purse. There were several other break-ins the same day.
I've been rafting the Stanislaus for quite some time and really enjoy it. But there are problems. This is a golden opportunity for lowlifes to break into cars. So, if you do some rafting or a hike along the river, all you need is your driver's license and a few dollars. Stick it in a ziplock bag and put it in your pocket. Leave all other valuables -- such as purses, wallets, iPods, CD wallets, etc. -- at home. Don't think that by putting this in your trunk, you're any safer; you're not!
