Are the red-light cameras at the intersection of Coffee Road and Sylvan Avenue broken? Has anyone noticed that three or four cars run that red light? These cars are turning left from Sylvan Avenue onto northbound Coffee Road. It happens every weekday from around 3 p.m. until about 6 p.m. Doesn't the city need the revenue these fines generate? At $360 a car, times four cars each light, that's $1,440. If this happens 10 times an hour, that's $14,400 per hour. For three hours that is $43,200 per working day or $216,000 in red light violations each workweek. That just can't be right. Would somebody please check my math?
Are the courts trying to collect this money? Or are the traffic courts overwhelmed? Does it bother anyone besides me to sit at the green light and watch the violators zoom by?
