This is in response to "How bicyclists and motorists can be safe while sharing area's roads" (May 3, Page B-5). Officer Derrick Letsinger wrote: "In California, bicyclists must obey the same traffic laws as motorists." If all traffic laws were obeyed by both bicyclists and motorists, there would be no accidents. However, some bicyclists feel they have the right of the road, and will make left turns without signaling and ride right in front of a vehicle making the same left turn. Likewise, motorists cut in front of bicyclists, forcing them to hit the curb or worse. At which exit did common sense and courtesy leave the road?
