During this time of economic hardship -- with the cost of food, housing and utilities skyrocketing -- I cannot imagine flushing $10, $20 or even $100 down the toilet monthly. On two visits to our local merchants I witnessed just that. The person in front of me at the register asked to purchase a $3 energy drink with food stamps. My husband and I forgo $3 beverages because of the price. These abusers of the system should be ashamed of themselves.
Buying candy and energy drinks on food stamps should be illegal. Food stamps were designed to supplement one's monthly food budget; they are not called "junk-food stamps." This system needs to be reformed or, better yet, stopped.
Maybe my husband and I should quit our jobs and live off the hard work of others. Welfare should be stopped. Please contact our government officials regarding this taxpayer-funded abuse.
Never miss a local story.
