I read with amusement the letter "Don't blame Price for cuts" (April 26). The vast majority of the teachers in Empire support the teachers who stand up at board meetings or write to The Bee protesting unfair treatment and the lack of respect the school board and Superintendent Bob Price have shown them. Districts are given cost of living allowances for all programs, including salaries. But Empire consistently spends that COLA before considering giving teachers raises they deserve.
Negotiators for teachers have had many positive, nonmoney negotiating items to talk about or have had suggestions on how to cut money from the budget without affecting kids. But the district's negotiating team repeatedly refuses to meet or rejects all proposals.
Good relationships start with respect! Price and the board have not shown that respect in the 11 years I have been observing Empire.
Never miss a local story.
