When I read "More money to build new shelter on the agenda" (March 24, Page B-2), I thought, "Oh God, finally, a new shelter for the homeless!" My heart sank when I realized it would be an animal shelter. Why is it that our priorities don't make sense? Homeless people are human beings who are crying for help. I don't understand the lack of logic and lack of compassion. One homeless person is one too many. It is heartless not to be moved by the sight of a person begging for money; and yes, I'm one of "those people" who will give them a dollar or two -- not to quiet my conscience, as one of your readers wrote, but because it make me terribly sad.
