Regarding SkyWest ending flights from Modesto to Los Angeles ("LA trips don't fly," March 27, Page A-1), I, for one, am delighted. The flight path is directly over several schools, including Modesto Junior College and Enslen Elementary, as well as my back yard. After numerous calls to the airport and the city regarding flights several times a day, beginning at 6 a.m., I finally gave up. When trying to talk to someone at the airport regarding the potential safety issue of takeoffs and landings directly over schools as well as downtown, I was not taken seriously and simply dismissed as a complainer. This is an issue of public safety and quality of life. We don't need to put up with the roar of jets close overhead several times a day so 10 people a day can get to LA 90 minutes sooner.
