Again, the Modesto Enquirer has earned its nickname. The first article regarding the Hughson Fire Department ("Hughson fire underwhelms in city report," March 14) was full of doom and gloom, written in a manner to panic the community. It was on Page A-1.
After a meeting in which consultant Anthony Fink agreed that, "the Hughson Fire Department always shows up and mitigates whatever the problem is," the resulting article is buried on Page B-2.
Disappointingly, The Bee didn't report that a community can come together in these tough financial times. As with most small communities, Hughson relies on volunteers to give of their time and money, whether it's firefighting, coaching youth sports, library work, a homeless shelter or any of the many things people do because it's the American way. We do it and we don't ask for anything in return. I give a big thank you to all of you out there who stick to your beliefs that we can all make a difference in someone's life.
Citizens of Hughson, when you call 911, we will be there!
