The brutal annual slaughter of baby seals in Canada is the largest commercial hunt of marine mammals in the world! Last year, more than 200,000 seals were clubbed and shot to death. The babies were as young as 12 days, not old enough to take their first swim. Canada allows the killing of hundreds of thousands of defenseless baby seals for their fur.
Footage from the Humane Society shows the horror during the seal hunt. Evidence indicates a large number of the seals killed are skinned alive. Baby seals, still conscious, are stabbed with boathooks and dragged across the ice to their death. The Canadian government condones this massive slaughter and even funds it.
The seal hunt in Canada will start soon. In 2007, our House of Representatives passed a resolution to urge Canada to end the annual slaughter of seals. Please urge your senators to do the same! People can live without fur, but animals can't. Visit http://ProtectSeals.org.
