Yvonne Holt writes an interesting column regarding the woman with children. I was struck by the poor life choices this woman had made and how, because of her illegal status in this country, she is unable to rectify those errors.
I am blessed; every stupid and immoral decision I have made in my life I have been able to correct without having to worry about providing for the welfare of children.
I suspect that many readers will focus on this woman's illegal status as well as her lifestyle, rather than on the point being made by Holt: Government help is very difficult to get. Illegal residents are not "over-running the system"; rather, they are surviving under the radar.
I would direct Holt to Catholic Charities in her community. There are other avenues available for help other than the government. I would also urge everyone to remember that idiotic and immoral choices do not simply affect the person making that choice. No man is an island -- no woman is, either.
