Columbus Allen Jr. II has become the poster boy for the judicial system since the shooting death of California Highway Patrol officer Earl Scott more than two years ago. Allen, who is the suspect in Scott's killing, is still waiting to decide when he's ready to go to trial.
Don't you just love the judicial system? During this time, memories begin to fade; evidence is lost (or stolen); witnesses die or simply disappear. Now the legal minds want to move the forthcoming trial to a location that wouldn't be prejudiced against Allen. That may be somewhere in the Afghanistan highlands.
Don't totally blame Allen; he's smart enough to use the system in his favor. Our legal system is showing itself to be extremely weak, confused and greatly lacking in leadership skills -- a beautiful combination of misfits.
Let's get on with the trial. No more excuses. Hire Judge Judy.
