I am a 22-year-plus loyal employee of Modesto City Schools. On Feb. 14, instead of flowers, I received notification that my job will possibly be eliminated, along with several other vital classified positions. So where has all the promised lottery money for education gone? And where are the promises that education funding would not be cut? My children have graduated, but if I had a student in the system, I would be very concerned!
Without classified positions such as nurses, secretaries, textbook clerks, library assistants, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, groundskeepers etc., our schools cannot function efficiently. Our schools are already running on the bare bones with the supportive classified workers. How long will it be before your children will feel the effect in the classroom?
Yes, we are in economic stress, but instead of eliminating dedicated personnel and putting more people into unemployment, our school board needs to be more creative in saving jobs. If everyone worked together and gave a little, instead of the top-heavy management keeping their big salaries and eliminating the working class positions, jobs could be saved.
Never miss a local story.
