Regarding "100 city jobs in $110K club" (Feb. 28, Page A-1): In a time when Modesto is crying about not having any money and having to cut services, the number of $110,000 executives more than doubled. In one year! And that's not even the complete picture. I know that the city has five deputy public works directors, not just two, and eight senior civil engineers, not just one. Meanwhile, the lowest-paid employee group, the Modesto City Employees Association, the people who actually pick up our leaves, patch our streets, fix our sewers, keep our water flowing and process our utility bills, haven't had a pay raise close to the cost of living increase in years. I would rather see the money spent on the working-class people who actually do the front-line grunt work. Instead, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, on our tax dollars. Shame on you, City Hall.
