Spay Day, Feb. 24, accomplished several noteworthy tasks. Dr. Michael O'Brien and staff provided the facilities and equipment to perform more than 80 spays and neuters of cats. Such an effort, when repeated, will significantly reduce the overpopulation of cats in our area.
Dr. Paul Sessa coordinated with the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, which deployed eight veterinary students who gained hands-on surgical experience. Seven local veterinarians provided surgical instruction.
Our community benefited; the students enjoyed the opportunity to gain experience in the real world; and the camaraderie was apparent among the professional volunteers.
