As an advocate for animal rights, I am sick of the "ignorance is bliss" attitude most people have adopted. When are people going to stop being callous, apathetic, ignorant etc.? The latest example of slaughterhouse conditions resulted in millions of beef being recalled. I wonder whether it will prompt a humane response to how we slaughter animals.
We have an ethical obligation to at least respect these animals for what they (unwillingly) give to us. They work for us, they produce milk and eggs for us and then we eat their muscles. We have the power to make their last moments empty of fear, torture and prolonged pain.
Please write to your representatives to tell them you support humane slaughter laws and enforcement of them and don't buy products from companies who are inhumane.
