Well, it's that time again. Stanislaus County is going to try to get that half-cent sales tax to fix roads. Transportation officials seem to think a more attractive flier, a shorter timeline (from 30 years to 20 years) and being more clear on what roads are involved and when they will be fixed will be enough to get the tax passed.
They are wrong. We want them to open their books and show us exactly how much gas and diesel tax money the county receives every month and where that money is spent. With gas over $3 a gallon and the amount of cars and trucks on the road today, that tax amount has to be huge. Show us that it is used wisely and you will get your half-cent. It's as simple as that: Open your books and let the sun shine in.
