I have to agree with the letters (Jan. 14) on the difficulty of recycling in Stanislaus County. I, too, have to drive to three different recyclers to recycle aluminum cans, plastic bottles, newspapers, tin cans and glass. No one recycler takes everything.
If I want my garbage company to pick up my recycling, I have to call the day before and let them know I'll have recycling out. I was told that I'm the only one on my route who ever recycles, and the person who does the recycle pickup doesn't want to drive the route unless he's sure there will be something to pick up. I could recycle every week, but I'm not always able to call and let them know, so I only put it out once a month or so. When I asked why the company doesn't put a notice in its bill telling people that recycling will be picked up on the same day as our trash, I was told that they don't do recycle pickup in our area for everyone. This makes no sense at all, since we are supposed to be reducing the amount of garbage going into the landfill.
