It is important for our community to know that the mayors, city councils and supervisors are working very hard, along with their staffs, to craft a revenue sharing agreement for a transportation sales tax measure.
It was reported that a city councilmember and a supervisor "brokered" a deal separate from the others. That is not the case.
During a recent Stanislaus Council of Governments retreat, Turlock Councilman Ted Howze, Patterson Mayor Becky Campo, Riverbank Mayor Chris Crifasi and I had a conversation over dinner regarding Howze's concerns about a sales tax measure. From that discussion, an Excel spreadsheet was designed and distributed to my colleagues on the board, as well as the mayors and city managers. This spreadsheet will facilitate evaluating various formulas as we negotiate an appropriate division of revenue.
We will not ultimately be successful, nor can we go forward, until all 10 organizations agree on a plan and funding formula that benefits everyone.
Never miss a local story.
