It's unfortunate that the Modesto City Police has nothing better to do on New Year's Eve. My family and friends know to avoid downtown Modesto at night because we feel it can be unsafe. This is especially true of weekends and holidays.
I'm certain this perception unfortunately affects revitalization and business downtown, both of which I strongly support.
We did, however, venture out to patronize a downtown restaurant on New Year's Eve. After returning from dinner, I was extremely disappointed to find a $99 ticket on my windshield for not having a license plate on my front bumper.
It was written about 11:15 p.m. The officer would had to have gone way out of his way to even see the front of my vehicle. Now, not only am I discouraged from going downtown out of concern of crime and violence, I also feel harassed by our own police department.
Never miss a local story.
Seriously, don't they have anything better to do downtown on New Year's Eve?
