I wonder if any other campaign members who worked on raising funds for the YMCA earlier this year feel as frustrated as I do?
When I was soliciting support from friends and neighbors, I told them about all the wonderful things available at the Y. I also told them that this money would be used to help fund scholarships for children and adults who needed extra financial help to participate in many of the activities. This way, just about anyone could take advantage of the great programs provided.
After reading The Bee's account of the problems the Y is facing and the departure of the CEO, I feel that I was a little used. We exceeded our goal and raised around $85,000 (I'm not sure of the exact amount), and we were happy that our work had been so successful. Where did all those funds go? It would be a terrible state if the Y is allowed to close because of poor financial management. How did this happen, and what is in the future for our local United Way? I hope that we will all get some clarity soon.
