Text-messaging while driving is just as bad as driving under the influence of alcohol. Drivers' eyes are not focused on the road. They lose their peripheral vision to detect potential hazards. Texting drivers are unaware of their surroundings and are not being defensive. They do not have control of the wheel.
I thought about calling in a drunk driver one time, but as I passed the car, I realized the driver was text messaging. How might I know this? When the driver's head is looking down at what seems to be his or her lap, I could see the light of a cell phone. The driver's left hand was on the wheel, right hand holding a cell phone, and fingers typing away.
Many people do not realize the danger they put themselves in.
