Looking for a business opportunity? The Ripon City Council wants "family-oriented" businesses for Main Street; apparently, there are too many buildings for lease or for sale on Main Street.
This coming year, Ripon is building twin arches on Main to attract "family-oriented" businesses. Some of the requirements for the privilege of having a business in Ripon are:
Miles of red tape, permits, licenses, fees and inspections to make sure your type of business is suitable for Ripon. They don't want to attract the drinking crowd.
You may have a small, tasteful sign, which must also be approved by the city.
Your customers cannot have cars because there is limited parking (actually, next to none).
Did I mention the ridiculously high rent?
Your family-oriented business must be willing to compete with a number of box stores, Walgreens, Longs Drugs, Save Mart, Kragen Auto Parts and of course the 220,000-square-foot Super Wal-Mart that will be in Ripon before long.
