On Sept. 26, a state Department of Transportation highway maintenance worker, Djuan Bush of San Leandro, was killed by an errant motorist while he was working in a well-signed cone zone. This tragedy only typifies the harsh realities that highway workers have to deal with.
Our state's highways are more and more congested, while a small work force tries to ensure the public's safety as they travel. We, too, have families to go home to, yet our lives are put on the line to ensure our safety. I cannot emphasize how critical it is when you access these highways, to watch out for our cone zones.
