When the city reviews its policies on animal control, I hope they take into consideration what a joke the once-a-month vaccination-voucher clinic is.
No longer can you purchase these spay-neuter vouchers at the county shelter. Instead, one must spend an entire Saturday morning standing in a slow-moving line with 300 other people there to get their dogs vaccinated. I spent four hours in said line, just to get an extension on the voucher that I already had. I did not take my dog, just the paperwork, but still had to stand in the block-long line. That is unacceptable.
If they want us all to be responsible pet owners, you would think they would make doing so a little more reasonable.
It cost me $324 to get my Lab out the pound after the gate got left open. The animal control officers picked her up one block from home. The fees were $182 with the voucher package, including the extension, plus a $142 vet bill to get rid of her kennel cough. I understand the fees, but it's ridiculous trying to complete the necessary paperwork. It would be a lot easier on all if the services become more accessible.
Never miss a local story.
