The headline "Letter writers support new peripheral canal" (July 26, Page B-7) leads one to believe that average citizens support the canal concept.
However, of the two letters that appear favoring a "peripheral canal" around or through the delta, one was from the director of the California Department of Water Resources and another from the president of the Association of California Water Agencies. Additional letters are available from others with vested interests in getting more salable water.
Since these agencies will receive increased revenues if this concept is implemented, of course they favor it. I think the headline should have been "Water agencies support peripheral canal." I do not. I remember the fight with the Jerry Brown administration with the original canal idea and I do not want the delta destroyed to provide more water to Los Angeles.
Maybe Southern California should impose a home-building moratorium.
