I would like to discuss the formation of the State of Jefferson. Article 4 of the Constitution provides for the creation of new states. This is a grassroots effort by Citizens for Fair Representation. It includes 21 counties from Northern California; people in Stanislaus County are petitioning to be included.
There has been a lawsuit filed against the State of California to achieve making Jefferson the 51st state of the United States. The reason it was filed was because 111 southern state representatives impose regulations on Northern California’s rural counties. The nine Northern California representatives have little or no voice; laws for southern counties do not reflect the values and needs of the north state’s residents.
Jefferson would have its’ own constitution and government made by the people of Jefferson. There is no problem with separation in terms of financial responsibility for the current state debt.
There are many advantages to creating SOJ, such as reduced taxes, eliminating regulations that harm business, certain rivers would be under SOJ control, fewer agencies (California has over 570), less bureaucracy, state sovereignty and more personal freedom.
