Here I go “beating the dead horse” again, but from recent letters and talking to people as I pick up litter, I see there is growing frustration over the blight in our city, be it litter or graffiti. Modesto’s mayor and city council must address this and find solutions. Here are a couple of ideas: Inmates, male and female, should earn their “three hots and a cot.” Bring back road crews and maybe take a day off their sentences for each day worked cleaning up the blight. How about fast-food restaurants charging $1 for each order that leaves the premises to go into a state clean-up fund tagged specifically for this purpose. I’m sure this could employ a few folks in the process.
Also, if you paint over graffiti on fences or buildings, try to make the colors match. Sometimes the cover up is as ugly as the graffiti. It’s time we become good stewards of our neighborhoods. The few of us who care need help.
