As one who was recently the unsolicited recipient of several dogs abandoned at a rental house of mine, I urge all of you considering pet adoption to make sure that you are financially stable enough and emotionally responsible enough to provide a safe, clean, warm place for that pet to live their entire life. Like a child, a pet requires routine medical care and daily pet and owner interaction, including play and exercise. If you can provide this, adopt from an animal shelter or rescue organization – not from a backyard breeder making money off of an animal they shouldn’t even own. If not, then don’t adopt. If you do, then pet shelters, rescue organizations and individuals like me are left to be responsible for the pets that will be irresponsibly abandoned.
