My wife and I did not join the millions of people worldwide who went to see “Fifty Shades of Grey” on Valentine’s Day weekend. Why? It is because this “Twilight”-inspired, “Beauty and the Beast”-themed narrative with explicit BDSM sex appeals to people’s lower natures. That is why this series is so wildly popular. I am not better than those of who have read the books or watched the movie. But I do know that porn – whether visual or literary – cannot inspire the kind of love, covenantal commitment, romance and sexual intimacy that God has created us for in marriage.
Instead, my wife and I watched “Old Fashioned,” an independent romantic movie that is both God-honoring and honest about the ways we often fail to live out God’s plan for our sexuality. Then we donated $50 to the National Center on Sexual Exploitation. We encourage your readers to look past the “Fifty Shades” hype to see the bankruptcy of its take on romance.
